Personal Dental Care:How To Achieve Dazzling Pearly Whites

Most people nowadays are getting attracted to tooth whitening products because they want to have a million dollar
smile just like the celebrities seen on television.

If you want your teeth to become whiter and more dazzling, you can add whitening toothpastes into your
personal dental care kit. If you want to use whitening toothpastes, don’t forget to check if it still
contains fluoride and other ingredients that fight and prevent plaque and tartar.

However, a lot of whitening toothpaste users claim that these whitening products didn’t really do much in
changing the color of their teeth. The yellowing of the teeth is actually a natural phenomenon. As a
person gets older, his or her teeth becomes yellowish.

If you are not satisfied with the color of your teeth, the best way is to visit your dentist first and
consult him or her about your dilemma. Your dentist will tell you about the effectiveness of
over-counter-products or they may even offer to give you professional treatment.

Most celebrities actually prefer to undergo professional teeth whitening treatment because that
way, their unique needs can be met. Be very careful in purchasing over-the-counter teeth whitening products
because some of these may contain bleaching agents that can actually damage your mouth and gums.

In addition to that, do follow the instructions strictly to avoid experiencing adverse side effects.

The Teeth’s Nemesis:

Sugar Perhaps everybody has gone through a stage in their childhood when they would constantly hear their
elders warning them about the evils of eating too much sugary sweets and candies. And those warnings are true
indeed; eating sugary sweets and candies is a major cause of tooth decay.

However, it might helpful for you to know that its not just about the amount of sugar that you eat - it also
involves when and how you eat sugary stuffs that determine the health of your teeth.

When you drink sodas or eat sugary foods throughout the day, the enamel of your teeth becomes constantly
exposed to acids. Cough drops, hard candies, and breath mints are just some examples of the harmful
sugary sweets that dissolve in your mouth slowly.

Dental professionals and experts suggest a 3-hour break in between taking food and drinks that contain
sugar. Starchy or sugary foods eaten with a full meal is said to be less harmful to the teeth compared to
being eaten alone because the increased production of saliva helps wash away the bacteria and sugar.

Eating sweet and sugary foods before sleeping is perhaps the most damaging thing one can do to his or
her teeth because one does not produce a lot of saliva when he or she is asleep.

If you want to have a health set of teeth yet you can’t seem to cut out sweets from your diet, you can
try some of these tips to help you achieve your goal: eat carbohydrates with a meal, brush your teeth
directly after eating, rinse your mouth thoroughly with mouthwash or water, chew sugarless gum, don’t eat
sugary foods and sweets between meals, eat non-sugary foods (cheese, popcorn, yogurt, raw veggies) as
snacks.

In a nutshell, achieving and maintaining a healthy set of teeth may not be as easy as 123 but with enough
determination and commitment to your personal dental care routine, you will surely have the smile that
you’ve been wanting ever since.

Tooth Whitening

Your smile speaks volumes about you. White teeth often lead the viewer to believe you find your health important, your appearance valuable and you look younger!

Frequently people who are ashamed of their teeth find it difficult to smile brightly in public. Watch a teenager who recently had braces placed on their teeth. Smiling may be difficult for a couple of days but their lack of enthusiasm about smiling and revealing the dental work goes on for months.

Tooth whitening products are more available over the counter and dentists are discovering more and more ways to whiten your teeth in the office. In fact, there are even home remedies that can be used to whiten and brighten your smile at home. Each tooth whitening procedure has it’s pros and cons. The reality is that you must decide which procedures work best with your lifestyle.

Tooth whitening procedures in the dental office have expanded from just chemical bleaching to bleaching using a laser light (Zoom!). Not every dentist is able to use all the procedures available. Nor do the dentists want to be able to offer all the different methods. If you chose to use a dentist you should know that you’ll need only one, possibly two, treatments. The dentist can fully evaluate your particular teeth to determine the best method to use on your stains, darkening or just aging teeth.

Tooth whitening procedures at home have a bit more variety. There are the trays, the strips and tooth whitening toothpaste. There are remedies that work in 3 days, 7 days, 2 weeks or over several months (toothpastes). In the case of tooth whitening products that are sold over the counter you’ll find they are all easy to use. Each requires that you wear the product for a specific amount of time and no longer. With the strips you are able to speak, with the trays you must not hold a conversation or they’ll slip.

There are also home remedies that use products you can find around the house. These remedies take longer than the standard 3-14 days of the over the counter products and definitely require more work and persistence than the one-shot dental office tooth whitening procedures.

Tooth whitening must be maintained. Although the process is usually good for six months to a year it isn’t permanent. You can increase the length of time between maintenance by not smoking, brushing after eating foods that stain such as berries, and using a toothpaste that whitens.

There is one discomfort that some users find with over the counter tooth whitening systems and that is gum irritation. The irritation can have a couple of different causes. By eliminating the cause you’ll decrease the irritation and discomfort. In some cases the trays aren’t fit specifically to your mouth. Some products have trays that can be boiled and molded to the mouth which will eliminate this cause. Another cause of gum irritation is because you brush your teeth before the process and cause a mild irritation prior to using the gel.

Some basic home tooth whitening methods include the application of a paste of lemon juice and salt or rubbing the inner white part of an orange peel in the discolored areas. Some use the paste of bicarbonate of soda with water or dried and powdered Bay leaves combined with orange peel. All of these remedies will give you excellent results when they are used consistently

The trouble with all of the tooth whitening methods are that they require time and patience. In this fast, rush-rush society several months of treatment to get what the dentist can give in one hour isn’t what people may seek out.

What ever process you chose be sure that it is one that fits your lifestyle and your beliefs. If you are having a difficult time wrapping your mind around using chemicals in your mouth with the dentist or at home you may be more inclined to use the home remedies, even though they will take longer.

Zoom tooth whitening

A bright white smile is important. It is the first thing that you notice when you meet someone. A white smile can actually make you look younger. It makes you feel better about yourself and can make a memorable impression. Zoom tooth whitening can change your attitude about your smile. But there are other options.

Unfortunately, although we may be born with a bright white smile our lifestyle and aging can stain and darken our teeth. Many foods that we might eat on a regular basis can contribute to stained teeth. Those foods can be coffee, cola, tea, berries, red wine and smoking.

There are several ways to safely whiten your smile. Some are fast while others take weeks. You must choose your method based on your lifestyle and choices that are important to you. Some of the home based options will take 3 days, 7 days or 14 days. Whitening toothpaste can take up to 2 months but you will only achieve 1 or 2 shades of color change while the gels and trays will effect a greater change over a shorter time. There are strips and trays that take between 3-7 days that will give a great result than the toothpaste but still not as fast or convenient as the Zoom tooth whitening method.

The Zoom tooth whitening method is fast, convenient, long lasting, has been proven safe and effective and is always performed by a dental professional. The Zoom tooth whitening system isn’t an at home method but is done at the dental office by a professional trained in the process.

The dentists who have the Zoom tooth whitening method in their office find that patients are excited about how fast the process is accomplished. At home trays or gels can take 7-30 days and the whitening toothpastes can take up to one month and only whiten by 1 or 2 shades.

The exact process uses a gel and special light. The professional will cover your lips, gums and face so only your teeth are exposed. Then they apply a gel and the light for 3 fifteen minute sessions. You end up spending approximately 45 minutes in the special light. You can watch TV, listen to music or just relax.

One of the side effects of the Zoom tooth whitening procedure is sharp shooting “zinging” pain in your teeth for up to 24 hours during and after the procedure. The procedure of whitening can open up little ‘pore’ like structures in the teeth that cause sensitivity of varying degree in different people. Not all people will feel sensitivity with the procedure but you won’t know if you will until you try.

One of the concerns that people may have is that the light plus the gel, while loosening and removing stains may also increase the temperature of the pulp of the tooth and thus do long term damage to the structure of the tooth. However, in a study published in the Journal of Contemporary Dental Practice researchers found that the internal temperature of the tooth didn’t increase with light or gel and light.

The Zoom tooth whitening method may be the fastest option for people who want a brighter whiter smile. But if you are fearful of potential pain in your teeth after the procedure you may be best served by another method.
